The Elizabethtown Office of Employment and Training closed Wednesday because of a sewer gas leak and General Manager Tommy Wheatley expected the building to remain closed today.
Wheatley was working Wednesday to prepare for a second day of closure by finding a temporary office to host basic services for clients who need to file unemployment claims, request benefits or register for jobs.
Space was made available Wednesday for a temporary office  at the Lincoln Trail Area Development District at 613 College Street Road, but Wheatley said the space was not open for use again today.
For more comprehensive services, Wheatley suggested clients take advantage of nearby employment offices at 860 W. Stephen Foster Blvd. in Bardstown and 125 E. Market St. in Leitchfield. Wheatley said he sent staff members from Elizabethtown to assist those offices.
Plumbers were called in to work on the leak Wednesday, but the status of the repairs was unknown as of Wednesday afternoon, said Lanny Brannock, a spokesman with the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet. Wheatley also said he was unsure how long it would take to repair the leak.
The Elizabethtown Public Works Department responded to a call Tuesday but Superintendent Don Hill said the department did not find a natural gas leak.
