The General Ben Hardin Helm Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp No. 1703 hosted a wreath laying ceremony at Confederate Place inside the Elizabethtown City Cemetery on Dec. 27.
The event, in honor of the Sesquicentennial Commemoration of the War Between the States’ Battle of Elizabethtown, was presided over by Joey Oller.
The names of the fallen soldiers of the battle were read by Elvin Smith Jr., vice president of the Hardin County History Museum, after remarks by Elizabethtown Mayor Tim Walker; Tim Asher and Steve Lindsey as Governor John LaRue Helm. Mrs. Helm, portrayed by Lisa Lindsey, shared period poetry for the occasion.
Floral tributes were laid by the SCV Camp and Susan McCrobie, Kentucky Division United Daughters of the Confederacy state historian. Taps was played by Mickey Storms and the benediction lead by John R. Clark.
