Area girls went 4-for-4 during the junior tryouts for Team Kentucky in the Kentucky/Indiana All-Star Classic.

All four area players invited to try out – LaRue County guard Alexis Brewer, Elizabethtown center Reauna Cleaver, Elizabethtown guard Darien Huff and Meade County forward Morgan Turner – made the team.

LaRue County coach Travis Wootton attended the tryouts April 12 at Georgetown College. He said their performances only affirmed how strong the area is in girls’ hoops.

“There are a lot of good players. You know and I know the 5th Region has been stellar in girls’ basketball. It’s not the last few years, it’s been an extended period of time,” Wootton said. “There was no doubt they would make it. The only question I had was who the core six would be, because there were about seven or eight who could have been in it.”

The Kentucky juniors will play the Indiana juniors June 6 in Indianapolis and June 7 at Transylvania University’s Clive Beck Center in Lexington.

“It’s really exciting and I felt really good about the tryout. We had a lot of good competition, so I wasn’t really sure,” Turner said. “This is a blessing and it was a big goal of mine to make it.”

Players were divided into teams for scrimmage play. Turner ended on the same team with Cleaver and Turner joked they had the tallest squad.

Turner was a bit miffed at Cleaver’s inability to throw a alley-oop.

“I kept telling her I needed her to oop me for a dunk,” Turner said. “An air-ball dunk, sure, but you know.”
