GIRLS' PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: John Hardin matches school record for wins (02/06)

LaRue County beats Nelson County

Junior center Zacchea Small’s double-double helped the John Hardin Lady Bulldogs match the school record for wins with a 56-52 victory over 5th Region foe Caverna on Tuesday.

Small had 14 points, 10 rebounds and four steals for John Hardin (19-7), which can break the record with a win Saturday. Senior post Michelle Montgomery chipped in with 12 points and seven rebounds, while junior guard Tajah Haley had 12 points and eight assists.

Freshman guard Emily Bohannon hit 3-of-5 shots from the arc and scored nine points. Junior wing Nawdya Fletcher had six points, four steals, four rebounds and three assists for the Lady Bulldogs, who won for the third time in four games.

LARUECOUNTY 58, NELSON COUNTY 55. Sophomore guard Alexis Brewer scored 23 points and junior guard Ivy Brown added a double-double as the visiting Lady Hawks (19-5) knocked off one of the top teams in the 5th Region.

Brewer also had eight rebounds and eight steals, while Brown finished with 16 points, 11 rebounds and four steals.

Junior center Alley Evans added 13 points for LaRue County, which trailed 32-26 at the half before rallying to snap Nelson County’s six-game winning streak.

GREENCOUNTY 81, CENTRAL HARDIN 45. The visiting Lady Bruins (4-19) had their two-game winning streak snapped by the Lady Dragons, who snapped a five-game losing skid.

Junior guard Aislynn Barnes led Central Hardin with 10 points, while eighth-grade guard Mariah Helton scored nine.

Freshman guard Caynan Powell and sophomore forward Melanie Humphrey each scored six.
