The North Hardin Lady Trojans didn’t look like they were a team riding a five-game winning streak the first half Friday, but they played like it the final 16 minutes.
After a shaky first half, the Lady Trojans used a 19-6 third-quarter run to take control on their way to a 59-48 victory over the John Hardin Lady Bulldogs in a 17th District game at the Dawg Pound.
North Hardin (6-1, 2-0) was led by senior Chanel Roberts, who had 24 points and 19 rebounds and recorded her seventh straight double-double. Junior guard Kiera Jones had 15 points and five assists.
Senior Michelle Montgomery paced John Hardin (6-2, 2-2) with 19 points and 11 boards. Junior guard Nawdya Fletcher added 14 points and grabbed six rebounds.
Tied at 26, the Lady Trojans opened the third quarter with a 10-0 run. Roberts drove in for a layup and junior guard Domeneque Taft drained a 3-pointer. Roberts capped the spurt with two free throws and a 3-pointer with 4:13 left.
After a putback by Montgomery, Jones made two layups sandwiched around a Roberts’ putback to build a 45-30 lead with 1:03 remaining.
North Hardin led by 10 or more points the final 10:34.
John Hardin outrebounded the Lady Trojans, 35-32, but the Lady Bulldogs turned the ball over 19 times compared to North Hardin’s 11 and had their five-game win streak snapped.
North Hardin led by as many as seven the first quarter before John Hardin rallied, taking a lead on two occasions – the last at 23-22 after a Fletcher 3-pointer with 3:10 left before halftime.
