GIRLS' PREP HOOPS ROUNDUP: John Hardin tops Caverna; LaRue ends Nelson's streak (2/12)

Senior guard Tajah Haley scored 19 points and senior guard Zacchea Small had a double-double to lead John Hardin to a 59-38 win over 5th Region rival Caverna on Tuesday.

Haley also had six assists, five rebounds and three steals, while Small added 10 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and four steals for the Lady Bulldogs (12-8).

Sophomore wing Emily Bohannon scored 11 points, hitting 3-of-6 3-pointers, while senior guard Nawdya Fletcher hit 3-of-5 3s for nine points. Junior wing Da’Inara White chipped in with seven points, three steals and two assists.

NO. 1 LOUISVILLE BUTLER 65, MEADE COUNTY 54. The visiting Lady Waves (11-13) stayed with the state’s top-ranked team until the Bearettes (20-2) pulled away in the fourth quarter, turning a four-point game into a double-digit win.

Junior wing Morgan Turner led Meade County with 25 points and 10 rebounds, while senior guard Raley Johnson had 13 points, five rebounds and three steals.

Junior guard Addi Lynch added 10 points and four rebounds.

NO. 16 LARUE COUNTY 61, NELSON COUNTY 52. Junior guard Alexis Brewer had 26 points and 11 rebounds, while senior forward Ivy Brown added 17 points, nine rebounds and six assists to help the Lady Hawks end their 5th Region rival’s eight-game winning streak.

LaRue County (16-6) was forced to play catch-up after visiting Nelson County hit five 3-pointers in the first quarter and led by four, but the Lady Hawks pulled even by the end of the third and outscored the Lady Cardinals by nine in the fourth.

Junior forward Alyson Yingling finished with 10 points and three blocks for the Lady Hawks, who won their second straight.

FORT KNOX 41, CAMPBELLSVILLE 31. Junior guard Taeisha Wynder had 24 points, seven rebounds and four steals as homestanding Fort Knox (2-20) beat a region opponent for the first time in 108 games.

Senior guard Haven Noble chipped in with seven points and four rebounds, while junior post Terrionna Jones scored six. Senior forward Christina Rice grabbed 15 rebounds.

Fort Knox hadn’t won a region game since beating Caverna on Nov. 27, 2006, in the season opener.

Eighth-grader Alyna Kelley chipped in with 10 points and four rebounds, while freshman Skye Brown had seven points and four rebounds.

Junior Alysia Smith added seven points, 11 rebounds and three steals for North Hardin Christian, which led 25-6 at the half.
