By GREG CREWS firstname.lastname@example.org ELIZABETHTOWN — Some say the most crucial thing in tennis is holding serve. That’s certainly what the Elizabethtown Lady Panthers did in the girls’ 5th Region Tennis Tournaments at the University Drive Park Tennis Courts this week. The Lady Panthers came into the tournament as the odds-on favorite to claim the team title, and did just that. Elizabethtown outscored second-place LaRue County, 18-10 as it placed all four of its entries into the finals. And in the finals on Friday, the trend continued. Both of Elizabethtown’s No. 1 seeds held serve, so to speak, as they defeated their teammates for the individual titles. Amanda Young defeated Jenna Sallee (No. 2 seed) for the singles crown (6-4, 6-2). Jessica Maxwell and Lydia Youngblood defeated Emily DuPlessis and Lexy Hazle (No. 6 seed), for the doubles championship, 6-2, 6-3. All four entries will complete in the upcoming state tournament at Berea College. Also qualifying for State from the 5th Region are: LaRue County singles players Maggie Russell and Kristen Brey, Central Hardin’s doubles team of Paige Berger and Kaitlin Blair and Marion County’s doubles team of Jane Claire Spalding and Leah Mattingly.
