GIRLS'/BOYS' PREP SOCCER ROUNDUP: John Hardin girls move to 2-0, while Fort Knox girls and Meade County boys also win (08/28)

The News-Enterprise Sophomore midfielder/defender Hanna Alcock scored off an assist from sophomore midfielder/defender Olivia Greenwell and sophomore keeper Jerrica Scovel made it stand up with 13 saves as the John Hardin Lady Bulldogs knocked off homestanding Nelson County on Wednesday, 1-0. Alcock scored 5 minutes in and Scovel stopped every shot she faced. “She (Scovel) played phenomenally,” first-year John Hardin coach Brittany Carter said. “She played off her line and stopped anything from the 6-yard line.” John Hardin (2-0), which outshot the Lady Cardinals, 14-13, is off to its first 2-0 start since opening 7-0 in 2003. Nelson County won the junior varsity game, 1-0. UP NEXT: John Hardin plays at 10th District rival Central Hardin at 7 p.m. Wednesday. FORT KNOX 3, LOUISVILLE FERN CREEK 1. The visiting Lady Eagles (2-2) snapped a two-game losing streak with the win. Junior defender/midfielder Emmy Raney gave Fort Knox a 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal in the first half. Sophomore midfielder Anna Nuckols scored off an assist from Raney and junior defender/midfielder Tiana Benjamin finished off the scoring with a goal off a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Erin Floyd. Freshman keeper Rachel Essex made three saves. Fort Knox outshot Fern Creek, 16-4. UP NEXT: Fort Knox plays at 10th District rival Elizabethtown at 7 tonight. BOYS MEADE COUNTY 2, GRAYSON COUNTY 0. Junior forward Zack Brown scored off an assist from senior midfielder Jonah Cundiff and senior midfielder Kerry Rupe added an insurance goal off a feed from Cundiff as the Green Wave (3-1-1) won their second game in as many days. Meade County outshot Grayson County, 12-4. The Green Wave won the JV game, 6-0. UP NEXT: Meade County plays at 10th District rival North Hardin at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
