U.S. Rep. Brett Guthrie has been recognized for his consistency in exhibiting conservative values.

The Bowling Green Republican was awarded the “Conservative Award” by the American Conservative Union Foundation.

The ACU presents the award to members of Congress scoring above 80 percent on an analysis of voting records by the foundation. According to a news release, the ACU scores legislation that shepherds the “founding principles of our nation.” Those principles include a focus on limited government as outlined in the U.S. constitution, traditional American values, strong national defense, a free market system and individual liberties, according to the news release

Guthrie in a written statement said he was proud to represent conservative views in Washington.

“It is an honor to receive this award and be recognized for my Conservative values,” he said in a statement. “We are fortunate to call America our home and it is imperative we do everything we can to protect it and ensure our freedoms remain for future generations.”
