A local woman will be working with statewide substance abuse policy after a recent appointment by Gov. Steve Beshear.

Leslie Hall, coordinator for the youth services center at North Hardin High School, has been appointed to serve on the Kentucky Agency for Substance Abuse Policy board. The appointment is part of her new duties as vice president of the Family Resource and Youth Services Coalition of Kentucky.

Hall, who lives in Elizabethtown, serves at her first meeting Thursday and her term expires in September 2016. The board promotes policies that deal with substance abuse in Kentucky, and Hall can disseminate information from the board to the coalition and her North Hardin center.

Hall is excited about her new role as vice president because she wants the public to learn about what family resource centers do. She feels most people are unaware of how they help.

“I would like to change that because we do a lot,” she said.

Hall said the centers “hopefully lend a voice to people who have been quiet” and help them to learn how to use their voice.

Hall has worked in the field for 16 years at West Point Independent School and Woodland Elementary School before coming to North Hardin. She feels she was led to do this.

“If you’re meant to do this, you don’t leave,” Hall said.
