Kentucky State Police is searching for an unidentified suspect wanted for bank robberies in Sonora and LaRue County.
Investigators believe the suspect captured in surveillance footage at the Bank of Buffalo and The Cecilian Bank branch in Sonora are the same man, according to a news release from Post 4 in Elizabethtown.
The Cecilian Bank at 235 E. Western Ave. was robbed just before closing time Jan. 15, according to KSP. The suspect handed the teller a note demanding cash and, after receiving the money, fled on foot.
The same man is believed to have robbed the Bank of Buffalo just before lunch time Feb. 27, police said.
During that incident, the suspect handed the teller a note not only demanding cash but also claiming he possessed a gun, according to police.
Post 4 spokesman Norman Chaffins said if the suspect has committed two robberies, there is a risk he will act again.
“That’s something we’re keeping our eyes out for,” Chaffins said.
Furthermore, as the man grows more confident, he said there also is a risk he may produce a weapon during a robbery.
Since Post 4 has released information about the robberies, Chaffins said investigators have received information and tips from residents.
Detectives have followed up on every tip, he said, but thus far, none have panned out.
Police have described the suspect as 5-foot-10 with a medium build. Witnesses have told investigators he has “dirty blonde hair” and facial hair.
He is believed to be driving a black, 1990s-style Chevrolet S10 pick-up truck, according to police. The vehicle has lightly tinted windows, a blue sticker on the left side of the back window and chrome grill bearing the gold Chevrolet emblem.
Anyone with information about these incidents or the suspect is encouraged to contact KSP Post 4 in Elizabethtown at (270) 766-4078 or 1-800-222-555. Callers may remain anonymous.
