Hardin County Schools set graduation dates for this year’s seniors and worked on next year’s school calendars Thursday at the board’s regular meeting.
Central Hardin High School’s graduation begins at 7 p.m. June 2. John Hardin High School’s ceremony is at 7 p.m. the next day. North Hardin High School holds graduation at 6 p.m. June 4.
A celebration for Hardin County High School’s program and GED students is set for 7 p.m. May 27 at Central Hardin High School.
The board approved next year’s school calendar, which begins Aug. 3 and ends May 16 for students.
The district identified 11 snow make-up days in the calendar to match the number missed this year. The board chose to add an additional two days by reserving the possibility of using Christmas break days to offset any time missed before the break.
Bobby Lewis, associate superintendent for student services, raised concerns about using Dec. 21 and 22 as make-up days because of family travel plans for the holidays. Scheduled trips could hurt student attendance.
The make-up days slated in the calendar are Dec. 21 and 22, March 16, May 4, 17, 18, 21, 23, 24, 25, 29, 30 and 31.
It’s noted in the calendar that if the district misses more than 10 days because of inclement weather, other scheduled breaks might disappear in favor of make-up days, including President’s Day on Feb. 20, a professional learning day for teachers March 5 and spring break.
