Before holiday shopping gets in full swing, Hardin County Schools is using the local mall for a holiday of its own.
HCS will recognize American Education Week by hosting a celebration of its schools and students from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Towne Mall in Elizabethtown.
Several schools will have displays for viewing and students from various schools will perform.
The district has hosted the event for decades, Community Relations Director John Wright said.
“It’s just something we’ve always done to be united and support education,” Wright said.
American Education Week works to recognize students and educators, and so the event does the same.
“This is just the celebration of what we do every day,” he said.
District officials like to hold the event in a central location in the community, he said.
The Junior Leadership Corps at North Middle School and J. T. Alton Middle School will start the event off, and they will be followed by Bluegrass Middle School at 11 a.m., Lakewood Elementary School at 11:30 a.m., New Highland Elementary School at 12:15 p.m., Woodland Elementary School at 12:45 p.m. and Rineyville Elementary School at 1:30 p.m.
Several of those schools also will have a display, as well as Central Hardin High School, Vine Grove Elementary School and the Junior Optimist Club.
