HARDIN COUNTY — Hardin County Schools will purchase and renovate a building to replace the Central Office annex on Main Street in Elizabethtown.
The 24,000-square-foot building on Corporate Drive is being purchased from TDA Properties for $900,000, according to board meeting decision papers. B.W. Metals is leasing 10,000 square feet from HCS for two years, and then that portion will be for the district’s use as well.
The new building will house the HCEC television production studio and the technology department.
The district’s print shop, which also occupies the annex downtown, will be relocated to the HCS building and grounds center on Leitchfield Road.
At its meeting Thursday, the HCS board accepted a bid from BCD Inc. of Bardstown to renovate the building for $1,188,000. The renovation will include an emergency generator and transfer switch for an additional $51,000, according to the decision papers.
The school system solicited bids for construction of a new annex building earlier. When the bids were more expensive than expected, the board put the project on hold.
The building on Corporate Drive became available and the board decided to remodel the existing building instead of constructing a new one.
The annex on Main Street served as the district’s central office. It also previously was home to a Coca-Cola bottling plant.
