The Historic State Theater Complex will host its first art show and auction Saturday in the First Federal Gallery.
With the recent art activity going on downtown during Second Saturday and exhibits at Wild Earth Gallery, theater director Emily West thought the timing was right to do something a little more cultural at the theater complex.
The free show is open noon to 6:30 p.m. with the auction beginning at 7 p.m. All the auction pieces will be on display throughout the day.
“Folks can have an up-close opportunity to view the pieces they potentially would like to bid on,” West said.
Kenny Lewis will provide auction services.
Tony York’s on Main will provide hors d’oeuvres from noon to 8 p.m. Wine will be available on a cash basis.
Along with the auction, the artist will have artwork available for sale during the art show throughout the day.
Nine artists representing mediums of woodworking, photography, watercolor and acrylic and oil paintings are scheduled to display art at the show.
Renowned local photographer David Toczko will have photographs on display.
Even more artists are participating in the auction, which benefits the artists and the State Theater, including local artists Cindy Overall and Heath Seymour.
“It’s really nice to use the First Federal Gallery for what it was designed for — art,” West said.
The room has a track system all the away around to properly display art.
“I look forward to having all the beautiful colors surround the room,” she said.
West hopes community attendance and support will warrant making the show an annual event.
