Housing industry experts will lay a foundation for homeowner education this weekend at the 33rd annual Lincoln Trail Home Builders Association Home Design and Remodeling Show.

The event, held Saturday and Sunday at Pritchard Community Center in Elizabethtown, features a vendor showcase and several seminars.

Building, buying, selling and remodeling a home each will be addressed in seminars led by local pros, said LTHBA executive director Kimberly Jayne. The seminars were added to the lineup after positive visitor response to energy efficiency seminars last year. The energy efficiency seminars, presented by Nolin RECC, return this year.

Lydia Drexler, of Associated Realtors, has attended the show for years and often sends clients to the event to collect ideas for their own homes.

“If you’re looking to remodel or to build, from cabinets and granite, to electrical, to banking, it’s all there,” she said.

In all, 77 vendors will be on hand to show and discuss products and services, Jayne said.

The show’s title sponsor, Window World, will set up its product display and bring a motorcycle built by Orange County Choppers and featured on Discovery Channel’s “American Chopper,” she added.

“It’s a great place to find new ideas and get advice from experts at the booths, but we don’t want people to walk away with a bag full of pamphlets, feeling like they didn’t learn anything,” she said.

Offering the showcase and the seminars will help homeowners get a better start on their projects.

Visitors will get the ideas, see the products and learn tips for hiring professionals, understanding common remodeling projects and seeking financing.

Attendees can pick up something more tangible, too. Vendors will offer giveaways and there will be a drawing for a grand prize for one of the visitors who stop by each booth. The prize, donated by Lowe’s and valued at more than $500, includes a five-piece tool kit and accessories and a $100 gift card, Jayne said.

The show is 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and noon-5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $3; children 12 and younger are free.
