Authorities attempting to identify female victim

Kentucky State Police are investigating the discovery of a woman's body along Interstate 65 today as a homicide.

An autopsy was completed by late afternoon but no cause of death has been disclosed by investigators. The Hardin County Coroner's Office said the body had been alongside the highway for approximately two days when it was discovered by a mowing crew.

Officials have not released a description of the woman except to say she appeared to be between 25 and 35 years old. Kentucky State Police are pursuing leads regarding her identity.

The body was found today between mile markers 99 and 100 in the northbound lane of Interstate 65. At approximately 9:30 a.m., Post 4 dispatchers fielded a call from a mowing company stating its employees had discovered a body alongside I-65 near near the tree line off the northbound lanes.

A police spokesman said the position and condition of the body and other evidence indicates her death was the result of foul play as opposed to a highway accident.

After evidence was collected at the scene, the body was sent to the Medical Examiner's Office in Louisville for autopsy, which was completed by 5 p.m.

The state Highway Department assisted by closing the right lane of the Interstate from the 98 to just past the 99 so detectives could process the crime scene.
