House of Prayer Lutheran Church joins new Lutheran affiliation

House of Prayer Lutheran Church in Elizabethtown has finalized its decision to join the North American Lutheran Church, a new Lutheran affiliation with more than 90 congregations in 25 states.

On Dec. 19, members took a final vote to leave the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The decision to leave came as congregations nationwide continue to react to controversial decisions at the ELCA’s August 2009 Churchwide Assembly, when the ELCA decided to allow individuals in same-gender relationships to serve in the clergy.
