SYMPATHY. Sympathy is extended to the family of Nellie Woodring. She was a former teacher at Howevalley High School many years ago. Her brother, Denver, and sister, Violet, live in Cecilia and sister, Mary, lives in Elizabethtown.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Shirley Hazelett. She used to work with my papaw Andy (A. J.) Holbert at Bussmann’s. She always spoke very well of my papaw and he did of her too. Her daughter, Ann, is married to my daddy’s Uncle Dickie Cecil.

Sympathy is extended to the family of my great- great aunt Leanna Cecil of Vine Grove. She is survived by her children, Donnie, Billy, Bobby, Michael, Eddie, David, Margaret and Debra, many grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was married to my great-papaw Willis Cecil’s brother, Joseph Mack, and she was the sister of my great-mamaw, Mabel Patterson Cecil. My daddy, Jimmie Sherrard, has many fond memories of his great aunt and uncle.

REUNION.The descendants of Walter Conder and Hazel Sharp will have a family reunionat 1 p.m. July 3 at the Big Clifty Community Center, Highway 62 and 720. For information, call Roger Pierce, 242-9686, or Ida, 358-5232.

HOOVER’S WIT.Sometimes at a very early age, children say some astounding thing that drive home a point. Dr. Marion Logsdon of Radcliff told me this awhile back concerning his grandson. He said his wife and grandson were out at the lake one day. His grandson said to his wife, “Grandma, do you believe I can walk on the water?”Alma said, “No, son, only one person ever walked on the water.”His grandson looked up at her and seemingly afraid he would hurt her feelings said softly, “Grandma, actually there were two.”(meaning Peter).

Just a friendly note about Hoover’s Wit. Some of these stories I put in my column were written back in 1986 by Col. Frances Hoover.
