JULY. The new month is heating up. Hope everyone had an enjoyable Fourth of July holiday. Daddy, Jamilee, Cory and me shot off fireworks July 2. We had some really awesome fireworks. The dogs didn’t like them at all. They hid in their houses. When we got done, there was smoke everywhere. It made it look like fog.

Many fireworks lit up the sky in Elizabethtown and surrounding areas all last weekend. You could drive almost anywhere and see beautiful colors lighting up the sky. Usually you don’t see this many. Maybe it had something to do with the legal sale of fireworks in Kentucky.

FIRE. We drove down to Brandenburg where the strip mall burned. My daddy, Tater, used to run a Pepsi route there a few years ago. Everything was a total loss. It’s sad that so many people are out of jobs because of this. It’s a big loss to their community.

HOWEVALLEY VERTREES COMMUNITY CLUB NEWS. 2011 Central Hardin High School graduate Margaret “Maggie” Overstreet was presented the A. J. Holbert Jr. Memorial Scholarship award by  Howevalley Vertrees Community Club treasurer Shortie Holbert. Margaret is the daughter of Johnny and Brenda Overstreet.

The next meeting is at 7 p.m. July 18. We are in need of volunteers to help for Howevalley Vertrees Day, which is August 26 and 27. If you would be willing to help and could attend the next meeting, it would greatly be appreciated. If you are unable to attend and still would like to help, give Trevor Mather a call at 862-4481. Without the help and support from the community, Howevalley Vertrees Days could become a thing of the past. HVCC wants to continue to be able to provide to the community neighbors and friends. Please step up and give back to your community. A special thank you to all those past, present and the near future members who already have volunteered their time to make Howevalley Vertrees Day a success.

HOOVER’S WIT. They say, “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.” So you fellers watch out when your gal starts to askin’ you over for suppah. There may be a catch to it. She just may be tryin’ to show you what a good cook she is. The first thing you know, you’ll be a candidate for matrimony.”
