Fall is here. We are having beautiful cooler days. It’s time to get out and get your pumpkins to carve and paint. There are several pumpkins farms in Hardin County area to get yours.

FALL BREAK. Hardin County Schools will be on fall break this week. Be safe and enjoy.

FAMILY REUNION. The descendants of Alva and Ruth Goodman are having a reunion at 2 p.m. today at The Howevalley Vertrees Community building. The meal is potluck. Bring special photos of family memories to share. Everyone welcome.

CLASS REUNION. Class of 1971, West Hardin High School, will celebrate its 40th year class reunion at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 8 at West Hardin High School in Stephensburg. The meal will be catered by Stone Hearth. The cost of $25 per person was due Sept. 30. CHHS.  Central Hardin High School Marching Band competed at Eastern Kentucky University in the Bands of America Regional Competition on Sept. 24. They placed second in Class AAA in the Prelims and placed eighth in the final competition. This was CHHS first time for placing in the finals in BOA. Congratulations Bruins.

CLUB NEWS. The Howevalley Vertrees Community Club met Sept. 26. A delicious meal was served. Carolyn Harper made some delicious cole slaw and Amanda Smith furnished the meat. Several club members were present along with three visitors and two children. Discussions were held on the success of the community festival. The club is sponsoring a Trunk or Treat night on Oct. 31 at the club building. All children are invited. 

HAPPY BIRTHDAY. Happy birthday wishes to Brian Kenady on Oct. 6; Justin Slenker on Oct. 7; Opal Smallwood, Doug Stillwell, Dennis Peters and Tristan Curtsinger on Oct. 8; Brenda Brown and John Sprinkle on Oct. 10; and G. E. Brad Goodman and Kathryn Goodman (15 years) on Oct. 11.

ANNIVERSARIES. Happy anniversary wishes to Steve and Miriam Burton on Oct. 6 (4 years); and Jeanie and Elbert Goins on Oct. 9 (41 years).

ON THE ROAD AGAIN. Jeanetta Chappell spent two days out and about. On Sept. 24 she went to her great-granddaughter’s first birthday party. She’s the daughter of Junior and Amy Jackson and grandparents are Curtis and Kim Chappell. On the same day, she visited Pam and Herbie Graham, Diane Yates and Lester and Louise Harrington. On Sept. 25, she attended the homecoming at Vertrees Baptist Church. Afterwards she visited Jr. Lucas and Eleanor Goodman. She later attended the revival at Vertrees Baptist Church.

HOOVER’S WIT. A cousin Carl Exler from Akron, Ohio, told of a time when they was driving through the western part of Kentucky. They drove through a little place called “Possum Trot.” The name fascinated them so much that they turned around and went back.
