HOLIDAYS. Another Christmas has come and gone. We’ve had a little snow and everlasting ice in the driveways and parking lots.

DECORATING CONTEST. The Howevalley Vertrees community outdoor decorating contest was held Dec. 17. First place went to Hubert and Shirley Goodman and second place to Brenda Smith. Congratulations.

Many homes are decorated throughout the community. Thanks to all that participated in the contest. The contest was sponsored by the Howevalley Vertrees Community Club.

CLUB NEWS. The Howevalley Vertrees Community Club held their Christmas dinner on Dec. 20. A delicious meal was enjoyed by all.

GET-WELL WISHES. Get-well wishes to Russell Helm, Terry Priest, John Shope, Reba Goodman, Jeanetta Chappell, Barry Childress, David Knight, Adam Hay, Rose Marie Hay, Thelma Dunn, Willard and Opal Smallwood, Mary Belle Hornback, Patricia Hornback, Amy Meredith and Cathy Morgan.

Happy 50th birthday to my mom on Dec. 31.

SPECIAL MAIL. My mamaw Shortie received a card and letter from a family friend, Brother Harold Kniffen. He is doing well. He hopes to come and visit in the near future.

SPECIAL MESSAGE. I received a special message from my very first bus driver at Lincoln Trail Elementary, Joe Rogers. It was very sweet to know that he still remembers me. I think about him from time to time, too.

LAUGH LINE. What did the mother broom say to the baby broom? It’s time to go to sweep.
