Vickey Hypes, horticulturist at the Kentucky Fairgrounds, was the guest speaker at the March 14 meeting of the Radcliff Woman’s Club. Hypes spoke about container gardening, saying that when selecting a container, she goes by the rule “the bigger, the better.” She emphasized the importance of proper drainage holes, suggested adding mulch to the top of the soil to maintain moisture and advised to keep the tray in which the container is in very clean.
She also told club members about an effect of mingling floral plants with vegetable plants which she called “mix and match”.
During the business portion of the meeting, quick reports were given by various committees. Highlights included information on the KFWC annual convention April 14-16, the Belk charity sale April 16 and the Crossway Center walk May 14.
The door prizes were won by Carlo Triplett and Jane Tabacchi, and the 50/50 was won by Maria Batistoni.
