James A. Lancaster, 77, of Elizabethtown, died Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, at Hardin Memorial Hospital.
The Hardin County native was an Army veteran and a member of St. James Catholic Church. He was a pharmacist and worked at Jeff’s Prescription Shop for more than 50 years. He was co-owner and then owner of Jeff’s for more than 40 years, where Jim installed the first drive-thru window and the first pharmaceutical computer in Elizabethtown. He was a member of Elizabethtown Knights of Columbus Council No. 1455, American Legion Post No. 113, a past member of the Optimist Club and a member of TPA. He volunteered at the Community Health Clinic of Hardin and LaRue Counties and was awarded the Jim Thornberry Award for volunteerism. He was also awarded a plaque from Merck and Co. for his volunteer contributions to improve the pharmaceutical care of the uninsured residents of Hardin and LaRue counties.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James T. and Eunice M. Shelton Peevey Lancaster.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Regina Chaput Lancaster; one daughter, Margaret Lancaster of New York; one brother, Nelson Hopkins (Teresa) of Whitesburg; three sisters, Maxine Boyd of Phoenix, Ariz., Shirley Minton of Radcliff and Linda Murphy (Larry) of Macon, Ga.; and two faithful friends, Max and Molly.
The funeral was Monday at St. James Catholic Church with the Rev. Chuck Walker officiating. Burial was in St. James Cemetery.
Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown handled arrangements, including a prayer vigil Sunday afternoon.
