Joseph William Vetter, 87, of Radcliff, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.
Joe was born in Owensboro on Jan. 16, 1925. His educational background included Owensboro Technical High School, Georgetown College and the Southern Baptist Seminary, all in Kentucky. He began his military service in the U. S. Marine Corps serving in World War II - Guam, Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal. In 1950, he became a Baptist minister and served churches in Lawrenceburg, Newman and Horse Cave until 2011. Retired Lt. Col. Vetter began his career as an U. S. Army Chaplain in 1961 and retired in 1979, serving in Vietnam, Okinawa, Germany and posts in the United States. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam. He was a faithful member of Stithton Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Myrtle Bartlett Vetter Jones; and his stepfather, Paul Arthur Jones.
He is survived by his wife of almost 66 years, Mary Frances Pruden Vetter of Radcliff; three sons, Joe Vetter Jr. of Plano, Texas, Scott Vetter of Louisville and Dwayne Vetter of Houston; six grandchildren, Jenna Vetter, Holly and Daniel Marrese, Heidi and CJ Storie and Clint Vetter; and a great-grandson, Mason Marrese.
The funeral was Saturday, Feb. 18, at Nelson-Edelen-Bennett Funeral Home in Radcliff with Dr. Gregg Curtis officiating. Burial was in Owensboro Memorial Gardens in Owensboro.
