WEATHER. June weather has proven to be hot. We are fortunate to have had some rain, but the ground is still very dry.

CHURCH NEWS. Vertrees Baptist Church is having a dedication ceremony at 6 p.m. July 5. Three dogwood trees were planted during vacation Bible school and will be dedicated in memory of former church members, Vivian Lucas, Lisa Williams and Martha Emberton. A potluck meal will be served at 5 p.m. with gospel singing to follow the dedication. Come and share your memories with family and friends. FATHER’S DAY. Margaret and Jamilee Sherrard and Phillip Shircliff treated the girls’ daddy to lunch and a tour of Mammoth Cave on Father’s Day. VISITS. My mom and sister-in-law, Elsie, and niece, Jackie Holbert, visited me June 15.  I visited my Aunt Sheila Lucas on June 17. I also spoke briefly with my cousin, Stephanie Johnson. By the way, happy belated anniversary to her and her husband, Jarvis, on May 15 (16 years). Ella Garner and I went out for Chinese at a restaurant in Bardstown and went shopping June 15. We had a fun day. Ashley Ray visited with papaw Charlie and mamaw Ella for a couple of nights. Ashley made brownies for her papaw for his birthday. ANNIVERSARY. Happy anniversary wishes to Ernest and Joyce Smothers on July 2 (25 years). CAR RACING. Larry and Sheila Lucas and Travis and Stacey Miller went to watch dirt track racing in Bardstown on June 14. They were celebrating Travis’ birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY. Happy birthday wishes to Brian Lawson and Sonny Woodson on June 29; Laura Masterson and Effie Duvall on June 30; Jeanetta Chappell, Charlie Graves (13 years) and Rebecca Powell (19 years) on July 1; Shanna Lucas, Wayne Williams and Cissy Aldridge on July 2; Carlton Blanton, Tim Gage and Justin Vowels (3 years) on July 3; Josie Nall, Ray Thomas and Robert Bohannon on July 4. GET-WELL WISHES. Get-well wishes to Keith Garner; Mike Lucas; Cathy Morgan; Rick Pearsall; Ashley Ray; Gary McDowell; Theresa Drumgold; Richard Nall; Zach Wiseman; Shane Horne and Mr. Vermillion. Ashley Ray got her cast off June 17. She is looking forward to being able to do more things now. BIRTHDAY COOKOUT. A cookout was given in honor of Charlie Ray’s 65th birthday June 14. There was great food and cake and ice cream. There were approximately 25 there. Everyone had a good time. BASEBALL REUNION. The 1983 Howevalley Junior Babe Ruth baseball team is having a reunion beginning at 11 a.m. June 28 at the Howevalley ballpark. A meet and greet is at 6 p.m. June 27 at Howevalley School. West Hardin High School Class of 1988 is planning its 20th reunion. Addresses of classmates are being sought. Please contact Angie Smith Bryan, 737-0512. LOST DOG. Do you know the whereabouts of Carlton Blanton’s dog named Buddy? He is a border collie that is black with lots of white markings. Carlton misses him so much. Please call 862-5410 if you know where his dog is. BACK IN THE DAY. My Aunt Sheila and Uncle Guy Goodman, when they were little, would go to the store in Rineyville with grandad Ernest Yates. While he shopped they would stay in the car and watch through a store window watching the switchboard operator placing phone calls by plugging in the wires. They thought this was so fascinating.
