Kitchen Adventures: This slow-cooked chicken will welcome you home

We’ve had enough cold weather lately to last a lifetime. But when it’s cold outside, it's a treat to have a hot meal in the slow cooker ready when you get home.

Crock Pot Sweet Garlic Chicken is one of those tasty treats.

The first draw to this recipe was the photos posted with it. It looked absolutely delicious. My hopes were high for this one.

On top of the visual pull to the recipe it also looked pretty easy. Mixing the sauce to cook the chicken in wasn’t difficult and the ingredients were already in my pantry. All that was missing was the chicken. In that respect, it also was an inexpensive dish.

I only made two pieces of chicken so I halved the recipe for the sauce and glaze. 

The sauce can be mixed the night before so when you get up in the morning you can plop the chicken in to the slow cooker, cover it with sauce, turn on the heat and head to work.

Then you can go about your day and not worry about what’s for dinner. While you are at work, school or running errands, the sweet sauce is seeping into the chicken as it cooks, creating a wonderful flavor.

When you get home, all you have to do is whip up the glaze and fix a side or two. To fill out the menu, pop some rolls in the oven.

Rice is a wonderful side for this dish and, if you really like the taste of the glaze, you can even pour some of it on the rice as well as the chicken. Serve the rice on the side or place the chicken on a bed of rice; both make a lovely plate.

This recipe did not disappoint. The flavors in the sauce made a great tasting chicken dish. It was a wonderful treat to come home to on a cold wintery day.
