HODGENVILLE — A LaRue County constable was arrested Monday on a warrant relating to a theft charge in Hardin County.

Jeffrey W. Metcalf, 40, of Hodgenville, is charged with theft by deception-cold checks and first-degree fleeing or evading police. He was lodged at the LaRue County Detention Center but since has posted bond.

According to a Kentucky State Police news release, troopers were attempting to serve a warrant at Metcalf’s White City Road residence when the constable ran from the home into the woods behind it.

He later was discovered in the woods and arrested without further incident, police said.

The investigation is ongoing. The fleeing charge is a Class D felony, punishable by up to five years in prison upon conviction.
