After 7½ years with the Kentucky State Police in Elizabethtown, Kevin Henderson will take over April 1 as the new police chief in his home town.
Henderson, 42, is a 1988 graduate of Grayson County High School and a Leitchfield resident. He worked as an officer with Leitchfield police from 1993 to 2005. He also has worked as a sheriff’s deputy in Edmonson and Grayson counties.
With KSP, his duties included assignments with secret service details, detective work and undercover narcotics investigations. He was assigned to Post 4 before resigning that position in February.
The Leitchfield City Council made its decision Monday night following an executive session. It followed the recommendation of a personnel committee, which selected Henderson from a field of six applicants.
Chief Bart Glenn told the council last month he intends to retire effective March 31.
