Library offers adult services in February

The following adult services are available in February at the Hardin County Public Library, 100 Jim Owen Drive in Elizabethtown. To register, call 769-6337. Stop by the library during the week before Valentine’s Day to make a craft that will be distribute to children in the community.

Intermediate Microsoft Word, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 1, 8, 15 and 22. This 4-week course will take you further with Microsoft’s 2010 word processing program. Registrants must either already have taken the Intro to Microsoft Word course or be proficient with creating and formatting Word documents. Call to register; space is limited.

Tai Chi Easy, 10 to 11 a.m. Feb. 2, 9, 16 and 23. A relaxing yet invigorating way to start the day. Drop ins welcome.

Basic computer, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 4. This class is for those who are very new to computers. Registrants must either have taken the mouse practice class or already be proficient in mouse usage. Call to register; space is limited.

Knitting Guild, 5:30 p.m. Feb. 4. Learn about the Knitting Guild of America, its charitable goals, and enjoy a knitting demonstration. Feel free to bring your knitting. Previous attendees are encouraged to attend and drop-ins are welcome.

Lunch and listen, noon Feb. 5. Bring a lunch and listen to humorous selections. Drinks and desserts are provided.

Tai Chi Easy, 1 to 2 p.m. Feb. 6, 13, 20 and 27. Learn the basics of Tai Chi. Drop-ins welcome.

Bridge Club, 1 to 4:30 p.m. Feb. 7. All proficiency levels are welcome.

Identify theft, 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 8. Learn simple tips to avoid being scammed. Seminar conducted by financial advising specialist Ken Schulz. Call to register; drop-ins welcome. Muffins and coffee will be served.

Jewelry beading class, 6 p.m. Feb. 11. Conducted by Medley Byers, the class is open to adults and youth. Materials kits are $3, but are limited. Call to register; materials list provided if kits are no longer available.

Mystery Book Club, 3 p.m. Feb. 12. Pick up a copy of P.D. James’ “Death Comes to Pemberley” anytime before the meeting.

Popcorn and a movie, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 12. Monthly movie time for adults. February’s movie is “You’ve Got Mail. Call to register; drop-ins welcome.

Blanket tying, 4 p.m. Feb. 13. Kathy Shireman will demonstrate how to make tied blankets. Bring three yards of fleece, 1½ yards solid and 1½ yards patterned. Call to register.

Handyman projects for women, 3 p.m. Feb. 15. Presented by Clint Lewis of Lowes. Become more proficient with fix-it projects around the house. Call to register, drop-ins welcome.

Diabetes lunch and learn, noon Feb. 18. Facilitated by a health department specialist, topics of concern will be addressed each month. Bring a sack lunch and a drink. Call to indicate interest, drop-ins welcome.

Intro to sign language, 6 p.m. Feb. 18. Learn basics of sign language and give input regarding what will be taught at the next class. Call to indicate interest, drop-ins are welcome.

Bridge tournament, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Feb. 21. Registration required by Feb. 15.

Smart Start business basics, 5 p.m. Feb. 21. Workshop teaches the how-tos of starting a business, feasibility and legal structure to licensing and permitting requirements. Register for this course via the UK Small Business Development Center at www.ksbdc.org.

Sips and strokes painting class, 1 p.m. Feb. 22. Bring a canvas, drinks and snacks, and enjoy a painting lesson taught by Jana Leigh Propst. Paints and brushes provided, but bring a canvas, size of your choice. Limit 12, so call to register.

Intro to email, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 25. In this session, set up a gmail account, google.com’s email service, and learn the basic functions of email. Registrants must either have taken the mouse practice and basic computer classes or already be familiar with mouse and internet usage. Call to register; space is limited.

Learn to crochet, 3 p.m. Feb. 26. Bring yarn and a needle. February’s project is a scarf. Call to register; drop-ins welcome.

Game night, 4 to 5:30 p.m. Feb. 28. Monthly game time for adults. Call to register; drop-ins welcome.

Evening Book Club, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 28. Pick up a copy of Ann Landers’ Life in Letters anytime before the meeting. Everyone is welcome.
