In terms of dollars spent, Mother’s Day accounts for one-fourth of holiday floral purchases — about the same as Easter and a bit less than Christmas and Chanukah.

Twenty-eight percent of men and 26 percent of women bought flowers or plants for Mother’s Day in 2010.

Among flowers and plants purchased for Mother’s Day, 63 percent are fresh flowers, 35 percent are outdoor plants, 22 percent are flowering houseplants and 12 percent are green houseplants.

Fifty-eight percent of buyers bought for their moms; 28 percent bought for wives.
