UPS group plans fundraiser benefiting United Way of Central Kentucky

UPS Supply Chain Solutions is looking for participants to get “knee-deep” in mud for an Aug. 30 volleyball fundraiser.

This marks the second year for the event, which benefits United Way of Central Kentucky.

“They had a really good time last year and a lot of the employees wanted to bring it back,” senior supervisor Scott Tabor said.

Last year, the organization hosted the event at Freeman Lake Park, had about eight teams participate and made a little more than $1,000, he said. This year’s event is at a different location, one that will allow for a larger turnout: On-site at its facility at 800 N. Black Branch Road.

“We have about six or seven teams right now, and it looks like it’s spreading,” Tabor said. “I’d love to get more companies out here and have about 15 teams.”

Cost is $150 per team and includes a T-shirt for each member. Tabor said for a guaranteed T-shirt, all participants should submit payment by no later than Aug. 20.

Teams can include up to eight members, with six on a court at a time. Two members must be women.

Hamburgers and hot dogs will be available, and all money from fees and food sold goes to United Way.

“It’s certainly a fun way to raise money within our community,” Tabor said.
