Donations given to children at times of stress

Two local check-cashing businesses are working to collect comfort for area children.

Check Advance and Advance America are gathering stuffed animals for a Teddy Bear Drive, which provides the items to children who have experienced a traumatic event. The drive began Wednesday and continues until July 31.

Across the country, local operators associated with those companies take part in various charitable programs, said Kathy Hall, sales manager at Check Advance. This year, the two Elizabethtown locations decided to participate in the Teddy Bear Drive.

“We wanted to see children not have to suffer,” Hall said.

Hall said she hopes residents will purchase new items to donate.

“The child deserves a new one,” she said.

The drive’s aim is to collect enough toys to serve this year’s need among police, fire departments and various agencies that distribute the items to children at times of stress.

Stuffed animals can be dropped off at the two locations and other boxes will be set up around the community, she said.

Check Advance is at 541 W. Dixie Ave. and Advance America is at 1705 N. Dixie Ave.
