LTADD District Highlights 43rd Annual Meeting

The Lincoln Trail Area Development District’s 43rd annual meeting April 20 was highlighted by the appearance and remarks by U.S. Sen. Rand Paul and U.S. 2nd District Congressman Brett Guthrie. New officers also were elected and sworn in as part of the day’s activities.
More than 175 people attended the meeting at Pritchard Community Center in Elizabethtown. Elizabethtown Mayor Tim Walker and Hardin County Judge-Executive Harry Berry welcomed guests from the region’s eight counties and other areas of the Commonwealth. Outgoing chairman Nelson County Judge-Executive Dean Watts served as master of ceremonies.
Both Sen. Paul and Congressman Guthrie addressed the budgetary situation in Washington and shared their views of the implications of the various proposals intended to deal with the budget and deficits.
Robert Claycomb of LaRue County was presented with the LTADD Board of Directors’ Palmer ‘Pete’ Petersen Award. This award is presented annually in memory of Pete Peterson, a former staff member of the LTADD, to an outstanding member of the board of directors. Luke Barlowe of Nelson County was the recipient of the Dorothy Dolle Award, which is presented annually to an older American within the Lincoln Trail region who exemplifies the standards, dedication and service set by Dolle, also a former LTADD employee.
The 2011-12 officers for the LTADD were sworn in by 25th District Rep. Jimmie Lee. Incoming officers are: Judge John Settles, Washington County, chairman; Bobby Claycomb, LaRue County, first vice chairman; Judge John Mattingly, Marion County, second vice chairman; Mayor David Pace, Brandenburg, Meade County, secretary; and Judge Harry Berry, Hardin County, treasurer.
Incoming chairman Judge-Executive John Settles presented outgoing chairman Judge-Executive Dean Watts with a commemorative gavel in recognition of his service as chairman of the LTADD Board of Directors from 2009-11.
