Man injured after being struck by train in E'town

A Lexington man walking on railroad tracks near East Railroad Avenue Tuesday night was struck by a southbound CSX Railroad train.


On Wednesday afternoon, Juan Clay, 44, was listed in stable condition at University Hospital in Louisville.

Elizabethtown Police Department spokesman Virgil Willoughby said Clay has been in the area for an extended period and was intoxicated at the time.

“He was under the influence walking on the tracks and he gets hit,’’ Willoughby said.

Clay was struck in the 200 block of East Railroad Street.

He is the second in the last nine months to be struck by a train in Elizabethtown.

Harold Haire, 53, was killed in May by a CSX train near Cox Lane. Officials said Haire was standing on the tracks when he was hit.

Haire was pronounded dead at the scene. Hardin County Coroner Dr. William Lee said Haire died of massive trauma.
