KSP says crash occurred while trying to run from trooper

A New Haven man was seriously injured Sunday near Hodgenville when he crashed his motorcycle attempting to run from a Kentucky State Police trooper.

Austin P. McMahan, 19, was clocked on a Yamaha motorcycle at 102 mph in a 55 mph zone by Trooper John Adams. The incident was at 7:33 p.m. on U.S. 31E about eight miles north of Hodgenville, according to police.

McMahan lost control of his vehicle and struck an earth embankment, police said.

Adams administered first aid and waited for the LaRue County Fire Department and LaRue County EMS.

McMahan suffered serious, life-threatening injuries and was transported to Hardin Memorial Hospital, and was airlifted to University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, police said.

He was in stable condition Tuesday afternoon, the hospital reported.

McMahan will face charges once he is released from care. The case will be presented to the LaRue County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, police said.
