Helping direct traffic after another motorist hit deer

A man struck and killed by a vehicle on Ky. 313 near South Boundary Road Monday night has been identified.

David Vittitoe, 23, of Lebanon Junction, was struck by a passenger car heading westbound as he tried to direct traffic around a westbound vehicle that had struck a deer, said Hardin County Deputy Coroner Kenneth Spangenberger.

Spangenberger said an autopsy report showed Vittitoe succumbed to massive traumatic injuries and likely died on impact. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Radcliff Police Department spokesman Bryce Shumate said Vittitoe's death appeared to be accidental but the incident is still under investigation. He declined to release the names of the person who struck Vittitoe and the person who struck the deer, citing the pending investigation.

Radcliff police responded to the incident at 8:20 p.m. Vine Grove Police Chief Kenny Mattingly was assisting in a reconstruction of events. Other agencies responding included Hardin County EMS and Radcliff Fire Department.
