Two Meade County men sustained multiple gunshot wounds Wednesday night after police said they were involved in a family argument on Battletown Road.
John L. Kenley, 64, and James R. Kenley, 50, were involved in a “heated family dispute” that led to both men shooting each other, according to a news release from Kentucky State Police Post 4 in Elizabethtown.
The two men were transported to University Hospital in Louisville where James Kenley is listed in stable condition. According to the hospital, John Kenley is no longer listed as a patient.
According to state police, Post 4 was notified at 6:50 p.m. of “a fight in progress with shots fired” at a residence in the 7100 block of Battletown Road in Meade County.
Prior to the trooper’s arrival to the scene, the Elizabethtown post was notified two men had been shot.
Post 4 spokesman Norman Chaffins said state police have responded to the residence before regarding a methamphetamine-related complaint.
He said troopers served the residence with a search warrant related to the shooting, but Chaffins did not know the results of that search warrant.
Asked about charges, Chaffins said state police will present the case to the Meade County commonwealth’s attorney when the investigation is complete.
