FORT KNOX — Nevitt Laroy Benham, 50, of Benham Road in Meade County, pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court to stealing fuel and other items from the Army at Fort Knox.

Between February and June of 2007, Benham took advantage of his position as a civilian employee at Fort Knox, whose duties included fueling military vehicles, when he stole tarpaulins and batteries for Army tanks, lubricants, oil, and prepackaged "meals ready to eat." The value of the stolen items totaled more than $1,000.

The maximum penalties are 10 years imprisonment, $250,000 fine and supervised release for three years.

Benham is scheduled to be sentenced before Judge Thomas B. Russell on Sept. 16 in Louisville.
