A new year brought the Elizabethtown Community & Technical College Barons men’s basketball team a pair of accolades – their first overall winning streak and their first home-court winning streak.
After beating Asbury University’s junior varsity in their previous game Dec. 14, the Barons completed a sweep of the Eagles with a 77-62 win Saturday night at T.K. Stone Middle School.
Former Elizabethtown High School star forward Chris McDonald posted a double-double (game-high 21 points, team-high 10 rebounds) to lead the Barons (6-7), who have won 3-of-4. Former Central Hardin guard Cody Crim scored 12 of his 14 points from the 3-point arc, where he was 4-of-7. Former Central Hardin forward Austin Geer added 10 points off the bench, while former Spalding University forward Rob Pittman had seven points, eight rebounds and two steals.
Two other former Elizabethtown players, guards Jerrell Mitchell and Jansen Flood, also had solid games. Mitchell had a game-high seven assists and Flood had nine points and four rebounds in his debut after transferring over the holiday break from Lindsey Wilson College.
The Barons don’t have much time to rest on their laurels though as they hit the road Monday to face the Volunteer State (Gallatin, Tenn.) Community College Pioneers, who were 8-4 entering Saturday’s home game against Arkansas Baptist College.
