The Fort Knox Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America, MOAA, held its monthly meeting Oct. 20 at the MOAA Clubhouse on Fort Knox. Following a meal and Halloween decorations, the chapter installed its new board.
The installation was hosted and conducted by Retired Major Gen. John Tindall, also a Fort Knox MOAA member. Following congratulatory words, he installed the following officers: Retired Lt. Col. Lawrence Herzog, president; Retired Chief Warrant Officer 4 Siegmund Reinach, first vice president; Retired Lt. Col. Jennings Furlough, second vice president; Retired Lt. Col. Albert March, secretary; and Retired Lt. Col. George Bennett, treasurer; and Directors Retired Lt. Col. Robert Kilmer, Retired Maj. Mark Kelly, Retired Col. William Betson, Patricia Nuccitelli, Josette Roush, and Lahoma Baymor.
The October guest speaker was Roger Stradley, the operations officer and one of the founders of USA Cares. USA Cares uses the motto, “A Hand Up, Not a Hand Out” and its mission is to support military families in need in all services. He briefed that since USA Cares’ founding in 2003, it has assisted nearly 25,000 clients using more than $7.3 million dollars. These funds are used to help pay utilities, stop home foreclosures, provide necessities and perform other assistances as needed and now is supporting the Wounded Warrior Project. He passed out a fact sheet that showed significant support to all 50 states. He further confirmed that the Radcliff based charity has been offered a new building free if they can get two acres of land for construction. A donor has stepped forward with land on Veterans Highway that is the extension of North Logsdon Parkway. At the conclusion of his briefing, the chapter presented him with a check for $1,000 to support its efforts.
The chapter’s next regular meeting is at 6 p.m. Nov. 17 in Building 297 at Fort Knox. MOAA always is looking for new members who support troops in need, award student scholarships and provide service to others. Membership is open to officers and former officers of all services.
