More numbers to dial starting in 2014

Area residents will have to dial the area code for local calls beginning in 2014.

A new area code of 364 will be introduced in western Kentucky in the same area the 270 area code is being used. The change was announced Monday by the state’s Public Service Commission.

Commission representatives said adding a new area code means everyone with the 270 code can keep their phone numbers, rather than dividing the area and requiring residents with landlines and cellphones in part of that area to get new phone numbers.
