More winter weather, more school closings

The region is under a Winter Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service. The alert is in effect until 7 a.m. today.

Rain turned to sleet and ice in mid-afternoon Sunday and forecasters are predicting accumulating snowfall overnight.

Road conditions were slick and hazardous at 5:30 p.m., according to police advisories. Multiple injury wrecks were reported.

A two-hour delay has been announced for all operations at Fort Knox today. Fort Knox Community Schools previously had announced a two-hour delay.

Elizabethtown Independent Schools and LaRue County Schools will be closed Monday. Hardin County Schools students are scheduled to be off Monday because of a professional learning day for staff. That training has been postponed, the district announced. It also plans a one-hour delay for 12-month staff members due to work Monday.

Other area districts to be closed Monday are county districts in Meade, Grayson, Hart, Breckinridge, Bullitt and Nelson plus Elizabethtown Christian Academy, St. James, Leitchfield Christian Academy and Bardstown City Schools.

The West Point School System plans to operate on a two-hour delay Monday.

Elizabethtown Community and Technical College also is on a modified schedule. Early classes are canceled. The college opens at 10 a.m. today.
