Military in Motion to benefit USA Cares in multiple states

By Marty Finley

Radcliff-based military charity USA Cares has coordinated an indoor relay team fundraiser later this month, partnering with 41 fitness clubs across 15 states in honor of Veterans Day.

Teams are encouraged to register and raise money as part of the new initiative Military in Motion, in which teams of 8 to 10 individuals will assemble at clubs and gyms across America on Nov. 9 to secure money for a charity while focusing on health and fitness.

Individuals can choose between a stationary bike, treadmill or elliptical glider and will take turns staying in motion. The teams are encouraged to cheer on their team members while they are performing, said Special Events Officer Barbara Lally.

Locally, Anytime Fitness in Radcliff has partnered with USA Cares to host the relay from 10 a.m. to noon.

Team captains will recruit their teams, and each team is encouraged to raise a minimum of $1,000, which will benefit USA Cares’ mission to provide financial assistance to military families in need across the country, Lally said.

Furthermore, all the funds raised at the different Military in Motion events will stay within the states where the money is collected, Lally said.

Registration is $50 per person and participants can sign up as an individual or join a team. There are also steps available to start a team at http://events.usacares.org/site/PageServer. Visitors to the site also have an opportunity to donate directly to USA Cares.

The organization has identified a need for funds to assist its core programs, which includes combat injured, housing assistance as well as emergency and jobs assistance. According to a news release, the charity has responded to more than 45,000 requests for help nationally, translating to roughly $10 million in indirect grants.

Refreshments will be served during the relay event, and teams will receive a complimentary t-shirt and other merchandise, according to Lally.
