NARFE has book sale during April meeting

-A A +A

Chapter 1050 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees met April 1 in the conference room of Nolin RECC.

Members enjoyed snacks provided by Dorothy Jones, Betty Olive, Nancy Kempf and Marilyn Ardisson.

The membership also brought used books to sell for donations to the NARFE treasury. The leftover books will be available at the NARFE state convention in Bowling Green later in the month, with donations going to the Alzheimer’s Association.

After welcoming guest Cindy VannAusdall, Chapter President Mary Tom Haun accepted committee reports and discussed old and new business.

A spring expo at Fort Knox on June 6 will showcase and introduce surrounding community organizations and the chapter hopes to man a table for information and membership options. Because of the current federal government situation, Roland Haun suggested the chapter invite State Rep. Bret Guthrie to be the August speaker.

Mary Tom encouraged members to recruit retirees and gave a reminder that the summer months of June, July and August will be evening meetings to allow active federal employees to attend.

Bobby Thompson won the 50/50 drawing and Betty Jones won the monthly door prize.

The next NARFE Service Center opportunity and meeting is May 6 in the conference room of Nolin RECC. The service center opens at 9 a.m. and the membership meeting will begin at 11 a.m. with a potluck luncheon before the business meeting. The program will be a report regarding the state convention events. Anyone planning to attend should bring appetizers, entrees and desserts.
