Neal Taylor Kindervater, 89, of Elizabethtown, died Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at Hardin Memorial Hospital.
He was a native of Clifton Forge, Va., and a flight navigator in the Naval Air Corps during World War II. He worked for Jenkins Essex Co., was president of Kindervater and Layman Developers and was a construction designer. He was an avid golfer and a longtime supporter of University of Kentucky athletics. He was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church, a beloved father and grandfather, an outdoorsman and was active in many civic organizations.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Jean Fullerton Shearer Kindervater; his parents, W.H. Kindervater and Ellen Roddy Miller Kindervater; two brothers, William H. Kindervater and Robert Kindervater; and one sister, Ellen Christiane Spalding.
He is survived by three sons, Bradley (Vanaessa) Kindervater, Taylor (Melba) Kindervater and Scott Kindervater, all of Elizabethtown; one brother, Julius L. Kindervater of Chattanooga, Tenn., one sister, Caroline Fain Dupuy of Tampa, Fla.; five grandchildren, Wesley Kindervater, Dustin Kindervater, Olivia Kindervater, Curtis Cochran and Brad Cochran; and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral was Saturday at Memorial United Methodist Church in Elizabethtown with the Rev. Michael Gibbons officiating. Burial, with military honors, was in Hardin Memorial Park.
