Truck takes a chunk out of parkway overpass

New Glendale Road was reopened today with restrictions after a tractor trailer pulling an oversized load struck the overpass Monday night at mile-marker 136 on the Western Kentucky Parkway.

The crash knocked a chunk of concrete out of the overpass, which temporarily shutdown eastbound lanes of the parkway.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet crews installed temporary signals on New Glendale Road at the overpass today, allowing for alternating one-way traffic. A crew performed a post-incident inspection early Tuesday morning and determined that motorist safety is not compromised under single lane operating conditions.

Signals will remain in place until repairs are completed to the damaged section.

New Glendale Road was closed through the morning rush hour at the overpass.

No injuries were reported as a result of the crash and no federal motor carrier violations were noted on the part of the commercial vehicle, KSP Public Affairs Officer Norman Chaffins said.

Officer Josh Patrick of KSP's Commercial Vehicle Enforcement is investigating.
