Central Hardin graduate Steve Delabar, a relief pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays, was named Thursday to the American League All-Star team after winning the All-Star Game Final Vote.
Delabar beat out the Detroit Tigers’ Joaquin Benoit, New York Yankees’ David Robertson, Texas Rangers’ Tanner Scheppers and Boston Red Sox’s Koji Uehara. He finished with 9.6 million votes.
He becomes the first graduate of a Hardin County high school to make the MLB All-Star Game and just the third player with area ties. Infielder Pee Wee Reese, a 10-time All-Star with the Brooklyn Dodgers in the 1940s and 1950s, was born in Meade County. Pitcher Len Barker, who made the 1981 AL All-Star team as a member of the Cleveland Indians, was born in Fort Knox.
In 41 1/3 innings this season, Delabar is 5-1 with a 1.74 ERA.
The All-Star Game is Tuesday at Citi Field in New York.
