Howevalley Mona Holbert, 234-3298 STUDENT SPOTLIGHT. Kane Harris, a fourth-grade student in Mrs. Gibson’s homeroom at Howevalley Elementary School, is the son of Kathy and Marshall Harris of Cecilia.  Kane is an excellent student. He always is so polite to teachers and gets along great with his peers.  Kane has many hobbies but his favorite is playing sports. He plays basketball, baseball and football. OCTOBER. The month is much cooler and wet.  Jamilee and I have been painting pumpkins for decorating and to give away.  I can't believe the month already is through it's second week.  There is talk of maybe an early frost next week and temperatures getting as low as 32 degrees.  Dare I think an early snow?  CHURCH NEWS.  Vertrees Baptist Church will have its homecoming today with Sunday School at 10 a.m., worship service at 11 a.m., with a meal following.  Special singing featuring “The King Daughters” and “Danny Duvall and Mountain Music.”  Everyone is welcome.  Pastor is Brother John Boone. BACK IN THE DAY.  As Halloween approaches, I can't help but remember when my daughters would dress for trick or treating.  My favorite to dress them as was witches. It was so much fun putting on black wigs, green face paint, black dresses and a pointed hat and striped socks.  They loved going to their neighbors, Larry, Debbie and Jason Light's house, and other relatives.  LAUGH LINE.  What's worse than biting into an apple and finding a worm?  Finding only a half of a worm. NEWS ITEMS.  Call in your news at 234-3298 or e-mail to mholbert31@yahoo.com by Sunday evening.  It is very important to get your news item to me on time.  I have a deadline to get it to The News-Enterprise.  I cannot guarantee any late news getting added to my column.  Thanks for understanding.  Have a spooktacular day.
