Reports of the Earth’s death are greatly exaggerated, according to scientific and religious leaders.

Friday has been marked as the next potential date for the end of the world based on some interpretations of a Central American calendar associated with the Maya.

The ancient civilization marked Dec. 21, 2012, as the end of the long-count period on its calendar.
